Memorable Fishing Moments

My Memorable Fishing Moments

Fishing is a great way to spend time with family and friends outdoors and make memorable fishing moments to cherish for a lifetime. It can be a challenging hardcore sport or a relaxing fun time depending on the type of fishing you are doing. There are so many great types of fish stories that are memorable form the big one, to the big one that got away, to the bloopers and accidents that happen on the water to the just plain funny times and stories. Almost every fisherman enjoys telling memorable fishing stories with friends and these are a few of the stories that I remember very well from times out fishing. Of course the most memorable times I have of fishing is sitting around with friends at a camp site after a long day of fishing talking about the day and making some grub and getting ready to do it all over again the next morning;.

Stripped Bass on Top Water

The Big One

Everyone likes to catch big fish and one of the best ways to catch big fish is to use topwater lures. I was on a guided fishing trip with a California Delta pro that was also really good at catching Stripped Bass. We were throwing big topwater spook baits and working them slowly through a channel in the middle of a giant grass bed that was around 8 - 10 feet deep max. I was using a baby bass colored super spook and walking it back to the boat left, right, left, pause, when the bait just was exploded on, it was like someone tossed a bowling ball in the water. And the fight was on. This big stripped bass almost spooled the reel and we had to chase the fish down with the big motor and finally landed her. After a few quick pictures we let her go. The fish weighed nearly 40lbs and is to date my biggest stripped bass and a catch I will never forget.

The One That Got Away

The one that got away from me that I will think about all of the time was actually a fish that was on the end of my line during a major tournament that would have made money. I was fishing a tournament at Clear Lake and long story short, I hooked a giant bass, easily over 10 lbs pushing bigger on a staysee ripbait, but the fish was only hooked with one little hook on the side. The fish came close to the boat and right before it went into the net it turned the other direction and just swam away while the bait floated up to the surface. It was really close to the boat, it was huge, and would have made a difference at the end of the day big time.

Diving After Rod and Fish

The Blooper

My favorite fishing blooper story I like to tell about myself is when I was fishing out on the river with my dad for bass and we were using senkos a bait that slowly sinks to the bottom often eliciting a strike while the lure is falling. Well the bite had kind of slowed down and was getting pretty warm so I guess I was getting a little lazy. I realize that I have a bite from a fish and I go to set the hook and for some reason I am not holding onto the rod and reel completly, I hold on enough to set the hook, but as I proceed through the hook set the rod flies out of my hand and in towards the water. Without hesitating I jumped in after my rod and proceeded to catch the fish. That fish must have almost scared itself have to death with my big butt jumping in after it. This is certainly one of my more funny fishing pictures.

Easter Bunny Fishing

The Funny Fish Story

I think one of the best things about spending a lot of time fishing is the cool and interesting people you will meet along the way. So many of the people in my life that I would consider good friends are people that I have met through fishing. This story is about one of my friends that is certainly up for playing a joke and getting people to laugh. I had noticed a couple years before that on Easter Day which is in the middle of the Spring when bass fishing is the best for the entire year, the lake is usually empty of boats because most people are spending time with the their families and kids doing Easter stuff. Well we were single at the time and no where we had to be so we decided to plan a fishing trip to one of our favorite fishing places in the world Clear Lake nestled in the hills of Northern California. My buddy decided it would only be fitting to go fishing in an Easter bunny outfit and despite being hot from the sun sitting in an enclosed bunny suit he did almost the entire day and made so many people laugh it was awesome. We decided to spend an hour over by the highway of the lake and the Easter bunny proceeded to dance and talk to people, telling them he was taking this year off and going fishing. Here is a video we took of the Easter bunny catching a fish.

Duck on the Boat

Spending Time in Nature

I really enjoy spending the day on the water looking at all the cool things that are out there to see in the world. I have fished at some amazing and impressive locations that are just a joy to be around. When fishing you get to be out in nature and sometimes the wildlife decides it wants to come and check you out. I have had beavers slap there tails right next to my boat, sea lions cruise by slowly, deer sipping from the shoreline and even a duck that decided my boat was a nice island in the middle of a massive lake. This duck came in hard and fast and landed in the water nearly smashing into the side of my boat. It proceeded to then just hop up on the back and take a seat. The duck came fishing with me for the next 30 minutes to an hour before it decided to head out on its way.
